"Why did you have to turn on the machine?" The Spirals of Time Travel Romance
This article investigates the closely related mechanisms of cinema, time travel, and desire. Includes discussion of films that exemplify the sub-genre I call the Time-Travel Romance: Portrait of Jennie, Vertigo, La Jetée, Back to the Future, and Timecrimes. The figure of the spiral proves significant.
